GUIDE is a partner organization in the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services' Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Task Force, a community anti-drug coalition focusing on the reduction of substance use among youth. In 2007, the Coalition became a Drug-Free Communities Coalition Grantee, receiving a 5-year, $500,000 grant. For more information about Drug-Free Communities grantees, please visit the DFC website.
Community Mobilization
Community mobilization refers to substance use prevention
strategies that establish or change social norms to change the
incidence of abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by the general
population. At GUIDE, we implement the Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) model program, and have enhanced our strategies by including tobacco and other drugs in our efforts.
GUIDE's major community mobilization components:
- Alcohol Sales Compliance Check Operations Partner with Gwinnett County Police Department
- Youth Leadership and Action , which supports Youth Action Teams in schools and other community venues encourage positive social norm development
